Galveston Part One

December on the Beach

We left home base in Livingston, TX on Dec 3 for the short drive to Galveston, TX where we have reservations for the month of December at the Sandpiper RV Resort, located adjacent to Stewart Beach.  We can see (and hear) the ocean from our RV site – and the sunrises are incredible! The photo was taken from our front door.

This first week was spent re-acquainting ourselves with this wonderful Texas island. Our first visit was in the Spring and we fell in love with the history, the scenery, the food and all the things to do.  We spent time in the Strand Historic District and on the 21st Street Pier area.  We also grocery shopped and found a dry cleaners nearby.

Most mornings found me walking on the beach, collecting seashells and simply enjoying life.

Christmas in the RV

One of the many things I worried about when downsizing from our 2400 sq ft home, plus the 1600 sq foot man cave was what I would do with my treasured Christmas memories.  We’ve been collecting Christmas ornaments from every trip we’ve taken since the 1990’s.  I was worried that I would have to give them up, but we found a way to keep them safe during our travels and display them at Christmas time.  In fact, we’ve found that Christmas in the RV is really cozy, nice and we are busy making new memories!

We spent the rest of our first week preparing and packing for a cruise on the Carnival Valor.  The ship departed Galveston on Dec 10, cruised to Cozumel and Progreso Mexico, and returned to Galveston on Dec 15.  We had such a great time!  More in the next post.
